The Weingart Foundation and the Ballmer Group are committed to improving the capacity of nonprofit organizations in key geographic areas of need. Weingart has made an explicit commitment to advancing social and economic equity, and Ballmer Group is committed to improving economic mobility for those disproportionately likely to remain in poverty.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Both organizations wanted to deepen their understanding of regional needs to help inform their strategy and future work in the community. AWA designed and executed a scan of South LA community organizations including lead analysis, organization vetting and recommendations, and individual + focus group interviews in order to understand the barriers, determine existing gaps and assess the potential for future partnerships and entry points.
The outcome was an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities of the organizations and community overall, as well as the development of a strategic review that included a deeper understanding of the constituents, viable partner organizations, and future collaboration opportunities.
Angels Wings Foundation is further developing and advancing its impact in the areas of philanthropic strategy, positioning and engagement. AWA works with them to assess feasibility and options in moving their organization to their next level of growth and impact.
Project Overview:
AWA worked with the key stakeholders within and outside of Angels Wings to help develop their vision and strategy for the future. This facilitated deep dive was then utilized to develop the philanthropic strategy for the organization as well as an action plan and recommendations to bring their vision to life in the community. In 2017 the Angels Wings Thai Scholarship Initiative was born.
The initiative is currently in its seventh year and the initiative has now expanded from Los Angeles to the entire United States.
The Derek Luke Foundation (DLF) works to improve the lives of people in communities of color by empowering and inspiring individuals to serve as advocates for access, equality and change.
Project Overview:
The DLF wanted to launch the foundation over Labor Day weekend by speaking to and celebrating with all of the different members of the community of Jersey City.
